DATA In 1997, the NC Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Task Force proposed and supported state legislation that created the NC Cardiovascular Health Data Unit. The purpose of the Unit is to provide the data needed for planning, implementing, and evaluating North Carolina's heart disease and stroke prevention programs. The Data Unit seeks to: - Expand our knowledge of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in the state
through analyses of existing data and collection and analysis of new data - Integrate and interpret information from multiple sources for
dissemination and use by NC's CVD prevention programs - Foster partnerships with NC's academic and research community
Since the creation of the Data Unit, new analyses of existing CVD data have been conducted to examine deaths, hospitalizations, and risk factors at the state- and, where possible, county-level. The Unit has also awarded a number of small grants to partners in the research community to do new analyses on a variety of topics. The Data Unit has held three Data Summits to bring people together to discuss their work, ideas, and priorities for CVD data and epidemiology in NC. The Data Unit has also published several documents, which are also included in this section. If you can't find the NC CVD data you need in this Resource section, please contact us.
