Early on the Task Force realized that, because of the complexity and prevalence of cardiovascular diseases and risk factors, it would take multiple programs working together to make a difference.
The NC HDSP Program [G1] works with multiple partner organizations - both public and private - in settings across the state to address physical inactivity, unhealthy eating, tobacco use, hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes and overweight/obesity.
Since 2002 we have expanded our early focus to include secondary prevention and systems changes to improve emergency response and quality of care for heart disease and stroke.
The programs detailed here help the Task Force to meet its goal of preventing heart disease and stroke in North Carolina.
