Physical Activity
Since 2002, the HDSP Branch has transitioned from a focus on primary prevention to a new focus on secondary prevention of heart disease and stroke. For more information on physical activity, please visit Eat Smart Move More NC.
- Eat Smart Move More NC: Eat Smart, Move More...North Carolina, a statewide initiative that promotes increased opportunities for physical activity and healthy eating through policy and environmental change. Increasing public awareness of the need for such changes to support increased physical activity and healthy eating opportunities is an integral aspect of the initiative. The ultimate goal of the initiative is to promote healthy behaviors that reduce risks and prevent disease related to inactivity and unhealthy eating behaviors.
- Community Environments (ACES) The creating Active Community Environments (ACEs) guide represents a valuable opportunity for public health practitioners interested in increasing opportunities for people to be physically active. ACEs are places where people are able and encouraged to walk, bike, or roll for both pleasure and purpose. There is increasing recognition of the importance of the environment in shaping behavior, yet public health professionals are just beginning to learn about effective strategies that focus on changing environments.
