Preventing Risk Factors
Altering environmental and lifestyle factors may have the largest impact on cardiovascular health outcomes in the long term.
 
Three issues underlie two-thirds of North Carolina's premature death and disability, and are the primary modifiable risk factors for CVD. These three issues include: physical inactivity, poor nutrition, and tobacco use. Stress has also emerged as another risk factor for heart disease and stroke.
