Start With Your Heart® – Public Awareness Campaign  Delivering simple messages to motivate North Carolinians to improve their health behaviors and know their numbers for blood pressure and cholesterol, as well as the warning signs of heart attack and stroke. When a Stroke Strikes, Seconds Count. Call 911!   Experts say that if people knew the signs and symptoms of stroke and got to the hospital within three hours of the onset of symptoms, many more lives could be saved. May is National High Blood Pressure Education Month  32% of N.C. adults report being diagnosed with hypertension. High blood pressure has no symptoms and is known as the “silent killer.” Having high blood pressure is dangerous because it directly increases the risk of coronary heart disease, heart attack, and stroke. May is National Stroke Awareness Month Stroke is the 4th leading cause of death in North Carolina. Knowing the signs of a stroke can mean the difference between life and death for you or a loved one. Act fast and call 911! Get to the hospital, treatment within 3 hours of the onset of symptoms is key for recovery. Partner of Million Hearts® Million Hearts is a national initiative to prevent 1 million heart attacks and strokes in the next five years. This will require the work and commitment from all of us to change. There are steps that each of us can take to reach this goal        as a nation. A Million Hearts begins with you.
